My family and I were at the River the night before, and by the grace of God did not go on Sunday, due to our son having a sore throat. As a member of the Meldrim Methodist Church, we lost over ten members of our church family that day.

I really liked your web site. Since I moved to this area, I have always been curious about the "Meldrim Train Wreck" but never asked to many questions for fear of bringing back sad memories for those who lost loved ones. Your web site very nicely pays homage to their memory and honors them. I also appreciate the church sites with calenders for up-coming events. Keep up the great work. Bonnie

My how fortunate you are to live in such a place as Meldrim. Those of us living in the large cities can only fantasize about the charm and rewards of living in a real "hometown." There is a strange homogeniety about all of people in the pictures. Everyone seems so happy and content. How lucky you are. John R. Hawes

I remember going to the park when I was a young girl. I enjoyed the crossbars and the the set of swings that was there. I was very proud when in the early 1970's when my father, Bo Stokes and Gene Ellison donated and erected the larger very tall set of swings, the big sliding board and a merry-go-round that ran on kid power, to the park. Both men and their wives have contributed and supported the...(trimmed) Rose Stokes Lane

Most of the living had been removed when we got there but some...(trimmed) Buddy Salter

I remember the terrible tragedy that happened in Meldrim in 1959 very vividly. My family and I lived in Bloomingdale at the time. We now live in Faulkville, so you can tell we like the area. It doesn't seem like this terrible event happend so long ago, for something of that magnitude stays fresh on your mind. I think it's wonderful that you have established a Memorial to remember all those wh...(trimmed) Mary Gay

Unlike many others, I was not born and raised here. I am a transplant to Meldrim with NY roots. I am happy to raise my children in this safe, neighborly community. It has been wonderful to be in a community where neighbors are always willing to help each other out. I especially hold dear the memories of when community members supported our family through the time my child was critically ill. God...(trimmed) Theresa Giacin

My heart still hurts for the families of the victims of the Meldrim Disaster. I was 8 years old when this happened and my heart aches now as it did then. A hurt like this never leaves a community but your website is a wonderful memorial. Brenda Lambert Lyght
