Angelyn Arnsdorff Wendelken

2005 Effingham County Sports Hall of Fame Inductee

 

 

Angie, a native of Effingham County and the daughter of George T. and Claudine D. Arnsdorff, Jr. was born on March 11, 1955.  She attended Effingham County Schools and graduated from ECHS in 1972.  After graduating with a B.S. degree in Music Education from Georgia Southern College in 1976, she taught kindergarten, first grade and fourth grade at Rincon Elementary and Springfield Elementary Schools.  While serving as an assistant principal at Springfield Elementary School beginning in August 1987, she completed the Education Specialist degree at GSU. 

 

Angie was married to William Ralph Wendelken III and had a daughter Lauren Wendelken.

 

In the spring of 1995, Angie was named principal of the New Ebenezer Elementary School where she served until her untimely death on February 26, 2000.  On April 15, 2000, the old Ebenezer School (Operational from 1904 through 1946) was dedicated to her memory as she was the catalyst for its relocation on the campus of the new Ebenezer Elementary School.

 

Angie freely shared her numerous, varied talents, including her gift of music by singing and playing the guitar.  She as an avid runner as well.  She ran in many local races including the Effingham County Recreation Spring Run.  A highlight of her running experience was her completion of the Boston Marathon in 1991.

 

Her life, though shortened by tragedy, was a true example of Christian servant hood.  Angie was active member of the Springfield United Methodist Church where she was a school teacher.  She played the guitar and sung with the Praise Band Team.
