Bobby M.  Rahn

2003 Effingham County Sports Hall of Fame Inductee

 

Bobby began his involvement in the county recreation program playing Little League baseball in Springfield at the age of 10. By the age of 12 his team had won the county championship in an undefeated season. Bobby was an infielder and pitcher and at the age of 12 pitched and won games in Little League, Pony League and Babe Ruth league. His Pony League team was a regional championship team winning tournaments in Savannah and South Carolina.

After finishing High School Bobby attended South Georgia College where he played baseball and participated in Southeast Regional Junior College championship competition.

After college Bobby returned to Effingham County and resumed his participation in county athletic programs. He played baseball at Pineora in the Savannah River League for several years. He also played softball in the county Church League for many years. His softball participation also included a tournament team from Springfield which was very competitive and won many tournament championships over the years. In addition to softball and baseball Bobby participated in Church League basketball and his wife was a junior girl’s softball coach.

His recreational interest involved serving on the Springfield City Council as the Chairman of the Recreation Committee. He also served on the Springfield Recreation Board and the Effingham County Recreation Board. Bobby served his community as a member of the Lions Club, Jaycees and a member of the Springfield Methodist Church’s Administrative Board. He is a retired officer from the Georgia Air National Guard.

Bobby currently resides in Greenville, South Carolina with his wife the former Bootsie Hales from Pineora. They have two children and one grandchild in the Atlanta area.
