2003 Effingham County Sports Hall of Fame Inductee

 

 

Played baseball and basketball at Clyo High School in the late 1930’s

Played and coached baseball in Clyo & Springfield in the 1940’s to the early 1960’s

Played baseball in the Savannah River League from the 1940’s to the early 1960’s

1969 coached Springfield Pony League

Played Church League softball for Laurel Hill Lutherans in the 1960’s

 

Effingham County Board of Education for 28 years from1944 until 1972, Chairman for 8 years

Football was started in 1959 while he was on the Board of Education

Donated the light poles for the first football field in Effingham County (Rebel Field)

 

Effingham County Board of Commissioners from 1973-1980, chairman for all 8 years

Effingham County Board of Commissioners from 1989-1996, chairman for last 2 years

 

Helped established the first Recreation Department in 1975 as well as the Recreation Commission.

 

Secure the first DNR Recreation Grant in 1975 for $ 13,500.00

 

He is married to Juanita Rahn Allen, and they have three children, 5 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
