George Johnson

2005 Effingham County Sports Hall of Fame Inductee

George was married to Maude Johnson and resided in Clyo a good portion of their life.

Attended the Mount Pleasant Elementary School

He played baseball for 15 years with Clyo Community team.  He played the outfield.  He also coach the Clyo baseball team.

He also played some basketball during his 25 years being associated with the sport.

His true calling was that of being a basketball referee.  He love the game and died on the court while refereeing a girls in the Springfield gym which use to be the home of Springfield High School (now know as the Springfield Annex Gym, where the recreation department still has games).
