Effingham County Sports Hall of Fame

Adopted - December 3, 2002

Purpose:

The purpose of the Effingham County Sports Hall of Fame is to recognize outstanding local athletes, coaches, officials, teams, and other people/businesses that have made major contributions to the sports tradition of Effingham County.  In honoring recipients worthy of this recognition the inductees should have possessed lifestyles which identify each as a positive as a positive role model for the youth of our community in addition to excelling in their particular athletic endeavors.

Organizational Structure:

Organization started in October 2002 under the direction of Effingham County Recreation and Parks.

The Effingham County Sports Hall of Fame is not a membership group.  Activities are governed by a Board of Director, who are a self perpetuating group of 21 persons.  Members are appointed for a four year term.  Accordingly, one-fourth of the member will rotate off each year. Members however will be eligible for additional four-year terms if nominated.  Officers will be as follows: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.  The president shall not serve more than two consecutive years in that position.  The Executive Committee of the Board shall be made up of the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and the immediate Past President.  The President will appoint such committees and chairperson as appropriate to accomplish the objectives of the organization.  Meeting will be at the call of president or his appointed representative in the president's absence. If we lose any member before their term expires, then the Board of Directors will nominate someone to fill out the remaining term. The above organization will be involved with Effingham County Recreation and Parks.

Amendments to these guidelines will be by a simple majority vote of the Board of Directors, after appropriate parliamentary procedures have been satisfied.

Nomination:

The Sports Hall of Fame Board of Directors should nominate and elect inductees through a balloting process using an application form that among other items provides for a biographical sketch of each nominee.  This process is complete when the number of candidates determined originally by the Board has been selected. For the first three (3) year, the Effingham County Sports Hall of Fame will induct up to 30 members with a minimum of 18 inductees.  Thereafter each year a minimum of five (5) and a maximum of ten (10) shall be honored.  For nomination to the Hall of Fame, a quorum of at least 80% of the Board of Directors must be in attendance, and the candidate must receive a minimum of 75% of the Board votes.  Voting will be by secret ballot.  Any Board member nominated for the Hall of Fame must excuse himself or herself from the Nominating Committee and the membership vote.  Any Board member who has a close family member (wife, husband, brother, sister, mother, father, son, or daughter) nominated for the Hall of Fame must excuse himself or herself from the Nominating Committee and from the Board vote.
