Judy Poole Wise

 2003 Effingham Sports Hall of Fame Inductee


She began playing softball at the age of 13 with the Zion Lutheran Church Women’s Team. Over a 23-year period, she played with various church, recreational and tournament teams in the Effingham County and Savannah Area.

She won over 200 trophies including 30 Most Valuable Player Awards, 22 Most Home Run Trophies. 8 times in her career she won 1st place, MVP, and Most Homeruns trophies in the same tournament.

 

In addition to playing softball, Judy also coached Meldrim girls Recreational ball for 8 years and was selected All Star Coach in 1988.

She was a member of the Senior Girls State GRPA Girls Softball Championship from Effingham County in 1972.  This was the first in Effingham County. They also won the District Championship.

 

 

She was married to Danny Wise and they lived in Meldrim.  They have 2 children, Jenny W. Sands and Jamie.  Jenny lives in Duluth and Jamie lives in Meldrim.

Mrs. Judy Poole Wise - Meldrim -Mrs. Judy Poole Wise, 51, passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2006 surrounded by her family and friends at Memorial Health University Medical Center. Judy was born in Savannah, GA and lived in Meldrim most of her life. She was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend who touched the lives of those around her. She was an avid softball player and coached recreation softball for girls in Meldrim for many years. Judy was also one of the first inductees into the Effingham County Sports Hall of Fame. She was preceded in death by her father, James W. Poole of Guyton and is survived by her mother, Juanita L. Poole of Guyton. Also surviving are her husband, Danny Wise of Meldrim; her daughter and son-in-law, Jenny and Bobby Sands of Duluth, GA; son and daughter -in-law, Jamie and Angela Wise of Meldrim; grandson, Chase McCoy of Meldrim; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Jake and Pam Poole of Springfield, Jeff and Peggy Poole of Savannah and Jimmy and Deborah Poole of Cordova, TN; a special niece, Krissy Arnsdorff of Springfield; Judy's best friend, Fay Genens of Meldrim; several nieces and nephews and her beloved dachshund, Jessie. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Funeral: 2 p.m. on Saturday in the chapel of the funeral home. Interment: Oak Hill Cemetery in Meldrim.
