Kerness “Lee” Davis

2005 Effingham County Sports Hall of Fame Inductee

 

 

Lee was born May 2, 1945 and lives in Rincon all his short life

He was the son of Dewey and Edna Davis of Rincon.

 

He married Bobbie Sheffield in 1964 and they had one son, Daniel Davis.

 

He played little league baseball for Rincon and was on the first little league team in Rincon organized and coached by Bryon Glisson.  He played center field, 3rd base and pitch.  He also played pony league for Rincon.

 

He was an outstanding athlete at Effingham County High School where he played football, track and baseball and lettered in all three sports.

 

After high school he played baseball in the county league. He played softball for Rincon First Baptist and also played with Savannah Gas tournament team on week ends.  He was an outstanding softball player. He was truly a gifted athlete.

 

He coached little league baseball in Rincon until his death on April 27, 1982 at the young age of 36.

 

He and Bobbie were married for 18 years and she still lives in Rincon and is now known as Bobbie Davis Hodges.
