Kirk Rahn

2005 Effingham County Sports Hall of Fame

Kirk was born November 1, 1961.  His parents are the late Wendell and Nell Rahn.  Kirk grew up in Springfield, Georgia.  He has one brother Kim.  Kirk attended Effingham Academy from the fifth grade until his graduation I 1979.

 

Kirk played baseball and made his first varsity start as a pitcher while in the7th grade.  He was Team MVP and named to the SEAIS Class B All-Region and All Start teams his junior and senior seasons.  His senior year, the 1979 team won the SEAIS Class B State Championship with a 21-0 record.  Kirk’s pitching record was 16-0.  Kirk participated in two track meets his senior year becoming the Region and State Triple Jump Champion.

 

Kirk walked on and made the 1980 Middle Georgia Junior College Baseball team as a short relief pitcher.  Middle Georgia was the 1979 National Jr. College Champion and the 1980 team repeated as National Champion with a 48-3 record.

 

After Middle Georgia, Kirk attended Armstrong State College (Now Armstrong Atlantic State University) in Savannah, Georgia. During fall intrasquad game his junior season he got 19 hits in 30 at bats for a .633 batting average. Armstrong Coach Joe Robert moved Kirk to 3rd base where he earned All-Conference honors his junior and senior seasons.  He also set 15 A.S.C. School records with one national record of 4 doubles in one game.  He won the A.S.C. Gold Bat Award both his junior and senior seasons, and ended his A.S.C. career with a .365 lifetime batting average.  He had camp invitation to Tampa, Florida with the Cincinnati Reds in February 1984.

 

After graduation from Armstrong State College, Kirk because a teacher and coach at Effingham County High School. He was assistant coach on many baseball and football teams which advance to the playoffs.  This included the 1987 Rebel football team which went 14-1 with the only loss (to Morrow) in the State Championship game.

 

Kirk after finishing college baseball career played softball with B & B while excelling in defense and offense.  He is also an avid golfer and has a very low handicap.

 

Kirk currently resides in Effingham County with his wife Kimberly.  They have 2 boys Jaime and Jordan.
