2005 Effingham County Sports Hall of Fame Inductee
Played and coached softball for 30 years—adult leagues and tournaments, traveling team tournaments, junior and senior girls’ leagues, co-ed leagues. Played every position on the field and coached. Received Most Valuable Player and Golden Glove awards.
Helped organize, build, and maintain the Guyton Athletic Association (which built the Mary Owens Memorial) from 1969-1986. Served as treasurer for that association for many years.
Participated in the adult county league and scheduled games for the league and for the Guyton Athletic Association tournaments. Served as treasurer for 10 years. Served as a volunteer umpire. Helped maintain and operate the association that managed the Mary Owens Memorial field in Guyton.
Coached a midget girls’ softball team. Assistant coach for Effingham County High School for one year. Head coach for 21 seasons. Conducted youth softball camps.

376-95, 13 Region Championships, 2 Sectional Championships, one State Runner-Up, 3 Final Eight finishes.
Selected by Georgia High School Association (GHSA) for State All-Star Game South softball coach and by GHSA for State All-Star Game South softball assistant coach.
Played volleyball and basketball for recreation department teams.
Vivian is the daughter of Earl Owens and Mary Brogdon Owens.
