Meldrim holds many happy memories for me. Like anyone else, I made my share of mistakes as a young man, but it seems I was always forgiven, corrected and welcomed back into the fold. Thank you, Stephen for making this website a place I can go to and visit the place where I grew up and made so many dear friends. I still miss Ricky Griffin and Keith Saturday a great deal. I think Larry Barnes had ...(trimmed)

My Royer family moved to Meldrim in 1939 and my grandparents lived there until they passed away. I was born in Savannah in 1947 but my dad, J. C. Royer, moved the family to Columbus in 1950. Growing up in the 1950's we children thought that Meldrim was the center of the universe. We just lived to make the yearly visit. Those were great days. My uncle "Rabbit" Royer still lives there next to t...(trimmed)

I grew up in Meldrim many years ago and will always consider it as home. It saddens me that many of the old houses are gone as well as the old elm trees that formed a canopy as one drove into Meldrim from Highway 80. I lost many friends in the train disaster, but I am sure I will see them again. This is a wonderful website. Thank you for it. June

My family spent almost every Sunday at the trestle. We had company that morning and it got to late to drive from Savannah. Daddy answered the phone, it was a very shaken Aunt Ann (Will Beasley' wife) screaming in the phone. Cousin Julian, his wife, and baby perished. Ralph Beasley, Uncle J.V. and his family survived.

I ran across your web page while doing some genealogy research. My husband's grandfather grew up in Meldrim. (Roland Crane, son of Ben and Sallie Crane). I would be interested in hearing from any of the family that might still be in Meldrim. Your website is very informative. Thanks for taking the time to put it online.
