Stephen Newsome's community service program was spotlighted on the news. WTOC arrived last week to film Stephen and his crew cleaning yards for seniors and presenting The Asbell Family with a power chair for Christmas! This is something that's done all year long by the program, but it's nice to get a little attention this time of year. Newsome said he hopes it will inspire someone else to do the same in their community.

The Meldrim Trestle Disaster DVD Movie Slideshow is available for only $10 each. It starts off with Meldrim over the years before the accident, then shows all of the accident footage, followed by Meldrim's progress. Over 19 minutes of pure Meldrim History! All proceeds benefit Meldrim Memorial Park!

Thank you,

Stephen Newsome

Meldrim Community Service Program

The Meldrim Community Service Program I started in Granny's honor reached new heights in 2008. We were able to provide a total of 2804 hours of FREE Community Service this year! We provided 893 hours of service in 2006. Then, in 2007, we provided an incredible 1603 hours of service. Well, we’ve certainly hit it out of the park this year. During 2008 we ended up providing an amazing 2804 hours of service!! I’m really happy with the services we provide and I’m very proud of what I’ve been able to do for everyone, but believe it or not, we still can’t get around to everyone fast enough.

The Meldrim Community Service Program is a program to benefit seniors and individuals with disabilities in the Meldrim Community that are in need of assistance. This program is possible with the cooperation and approval of the Effingham County State Court and the Effingham County Probation Office.  I approached them with the idea to help seniors and individuals in need in the Meldrim area, while giving them another outlet for individuals that are required to perform community service. Not only does this help the Meldrim Community, it also helps Effingham County. I now receive community service workers from Effingham, Chatham, Bryan, and Bulloch County! Please read the following information and let Stephen Newsome know if you would like to help in any way or if you know of someone that may qualify for assistance.

I'd like to thank my friends, family, and neighbors for your condolences. Granny had an incredible influence on my life, as well as touching the lives of others in such an amazing way. There are so many things I miss now that she's not here with me, most of all I miss sitting with her and simply holding her hand. I'm so fortunate to have been able to spend so much time with Granny. I have many, many wonderful memories of the time we've spent together that I'll cherish forever...

Thank each of you for loving her so much!

Sincerely,

Stephen R. Newsome
